The year was 1965.
Although she appeared in a few British films and tv shows it wasn't until '65 that she burst into the universal public's eye.
She is JULIE CHRISTIE.
The films that tie are her Oscar Winning Best Actress performance in 'Darling' and the epic 'Doctor Zhivago".
These two films get this spot because of Julie.
They would be the beginning of a career that lasts till today.
Julie remains one of my favorites.
I thank god for whenever she decides to grace the screen with HER presence.
She really has hated filming these past 20 years but shows up every now and then to remind us how much she is missed!
Just last year she graced us with 'Away From Her'. She should have won the Oscar!!!
'DARLING'
The essential 60's film. THE morals, mores, the decadence or the lack of. Directed by the brilliant John Schlesinger and written by Frederic Rafael this is slice of 60's life at it's best.
The Oscar!
'DOCTOR ZHIVAGO'
Simply put: EPICAL. The likes of which we may never see in the future again. Julie is Lara Antpov caught in the war in Russia and a war in a marriage. She is radiant! Omar Shariff in his born to play role. Alove story that is timeless for all time.
This blog gives a look into the eternal sunshine of my ever roving mind. I consider myself a social critic. I believe in Film, Music, Theatre, Musical Theatre, Gay Rights, the Right to Choose, Human Rights and YES I still believe in Barack Obama. I believe in most things left of center. I don't get any organized religion. They are all a sham. This is the gay pride flag. I am proudly gay. These are the things this blog is about. Love it, like it or leave it. We all have choices.

To Kill A Mockingbird - 1963
I'm challenging myself. I have already picked my Favorite Film of all time, 'The Lion in Winter'. Kate Hepburn in my mind gave the greatest female performance on screen. None have surpassed though some have come close.
My second, and a very very close second is 'To Kill A Mockingbird'. Gregory Peck gave the best all time performance by an actor in this film. The screen is a lesser place without him.
This is a film about civil wrongs, the injustice of justice, prejudice, hate and it's consequences. But most importantly it was a love story. The love of a parent for his children and vice versa. Atticus Finch was the father most wish they had had. Not to take anything away from anyone's own dad...but Atticus? He was the embodiment of what was good in all dad's just multiplied by a hundred million and then some.
It also show cased the talents of three child actors who were anything but "child actors". This was due to the brilliant direction of Robert Mulligan.
The best of the three was Mary Badham as his daughter Scout. As far as iI know Mary has only made two other movies, the most notable 'This Property Is Condemned' with Natalie Wood. She was Oscar nominated in a supporting role. Patty Duke won for an amazing Helen Keller in 'The Miracle Worker'. Patty had played the role on Broadway and won a Tony Award. She was rehearsing for a long time for that movie. Mary gave a new fresh, spunky and loving performance. Mary should have won! Another Oscar mistake.
I love this film (obviously). If you don't know then it rent it. You will thank me.

'Bones': Season Premier Tonight
The one good thing that the screen writer's strike for me was 'Bones'. Tired of the reruns I had seen I gave this show a shot. It is good drama but more importantly it is witty. Adult wit.
The leads Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, Temperance and Seely, are perfectly matched sharing great banter and better sexual tension. I hope they keep the tension and don't fall into bed too soon. That has ruined too too many good shows.
It also supports a good supporting cast, most especially Michaela Conlin as Angela.
I Love This Show.
