Spotlight: Steve Grand

it's a pleasure and a joy to share 'all-american boy' written and performed by steve grand. steve is an out gay man. he is country. he has heart, soul and balls. as a gay man i always feel a sense of pride when someone comes out. i am proud that young gay men and women will have another role model. not having role models made my childhood and adolesence pure hell. i can only think those days are almost well behind us.
'all-american boy' is 'that' song about unrequited love. the longing of the gay man for his straight buddy. c'mon most of us went through this at least once in our youth.
i congratulate and honor you steve. i wish you great success. you indeed arre the new all american boy.

******

Integrity

i congratulate and thank jason collins for coming out. now there is a role model in the professional leagues. will the day ever come, i think it may, when we stop having to say 'the first'? the first gay, the first black, the first latino/latina? the new day is dawning moves forward.

'The Big Gay Musical' on DVD and Blu Ray *1/2stars

a silly romp that takes on some serious topics in a retelling of 'adam and steve'. the music and lyrics are mostly inane and definitely forgettable. i think it can only appeal to those who enjoy camp. if i want camp i'll revisit 'valley of the dolls' or 'the legend of lylah clare' which are sooooo bad that they are make good camp.

'Eyes Wide Open': Gay Love Story Set In Israel's Orthodox Community

Directed by Haim Tabakman and written by Merav Doster, 'Eyes Wide Open' is a gay love story set in Jerusalem’s "ultra-orthodox" Jewish community — in other words, in a society in which homosexuality is totally unacceptable.

Here’s the synopsis from the Eyes Wide Open press release: "Aaron, a respectable butcher in Jerusalem’s ultra-orthodox Jewish community is married to Rivka and is a dedicated father of four children. One day, he meets Ezri, a handsome twenty-two year old student, and soon falls in love with him. He then starts to neglect his family and community life, swept away by his love and lust for Ezri. But guilt, torment and pressure from the community will catch up with him, leading him to make a radical decision."
Winner of the John Schlesinger Award for Outstanding First Feature at the 2010 Palm Springs Film Festival, Eyes Wide Open is now playing in New York City at the Cinema Village. No other release dates have been set.

Eyes Wide Open stars Jerusalem Film Festival best actor winner Zohar Shtrauss, best supporting actor Israeli Academy Award nominee Ran Danker, Tzahi Grad, Isaac Sharry, and — no joking— Tinkerbell (who played Satan in Assi Dayan’s The Gospel According to God).
