'Oz the Great and Powerful': *star

what a mess. what a bore. i have no clue how this film has made over $300 billion dollars except for the fact that we got fooled into thinking this was a 3d masterpiece. well it's not. i love james franco and rachel weisz and they deserve better and should do better by us.

don't waste your time that you'll never get back or your money.

'Eat Pray Love' or 'Kvetch Kvetch Kvetch' Rates *star

it took me awhile to catch up with this one and i still did not wait long enough. bore bore bore. this movie started and proceeded to nowhere but took 2hours and 20 minutes to get there. julia roberts is ever charming and generally accessible on film but not this time. her performance is as removed and remote. she even made eating in rome look boring and dull. that in itself s a major fete but not the presumed desired end result. skip it. go out for a good italian meal as the one in this film is rancid.

'Winter's Bone': *star

'winter's bone' is this year's darling of the critics. infact it is as dull as dish water. i love independent films. each year a number of those released are better than 'mainstream' studio films. this is not one of them.

jennifer lawrence in the lead role is being lauded all over the place especially at film festivals. she is being hailed by many critics and bloggers alike as the 'best' of the year. better than whom? everyone else? she is merely fine in a boring role in a boring film. 

it is not the worst movie of the year. that slot is still reserved for 'alice in wonderland'. 

in two words: don't bother!

'The Last Station' *stars

'the last station' or 'the history of histrionics as offered by 'watch me over emote' helen mirren'.

as the countess sophia who all but kicks her husband leo tolstoy in his nuts ms. mirren proves she is the most overrated british actress of her time. she is such a 'phony' actress. it's all kind of ''watch me act. am i not wonderful? i'm going to scream and shout now. am i not a brilliant actress?". no ms. mirren you are not brilliant. you are damn annoying is what you are.

those who follow this blog know that my love and admiration for british actresses are bountiful and always has been. julie, judy, maggie, keira, deborah and kate are always at the top of all my lists. but mirren my god stop already. you are maddening.

christopher plummer what can i say? you gave an admirable performance considering the scene chewing ham you were playing against. she actually recieved an oscar nomination for this. makes one wonder.

the film itself is a waste of 1:53 hours. the one star is for the location shots, james mcavoy and the cinematography. i am being kind much to kind.

oh well...my suggestion is do not buy, do not rent...pass it by.
