Wed, Bed, Behead: A Fond Farewell to 'The Tudors'

wed, bed, behead...well not all of them...but there was a lot of beheading and more...there was drama, love, romance, blood and guts and conniving and intrique. oh those tudors...tonight we say fare thee well to one of tv's best limited series and certainly showtimes best ever.
a great cast headed by jonathan rhys meyers brought history to life. he excelled as henry VIII king of england from 6/24/1509 to his death on 1/28/1547.

special kudos to maria doyle kennedy (katherine of aragon), natalie dormer (anne boleyn), joely richardson (catherine parr), jeremy northam (sir thomas moore), sarah bolger (princess mary tudor), james frain (thomas cromwell), anthony brophy (ambassador eustace chapuys) and last but never least henry cavill (charles brandon 1st duke of suffolk).

showtime will next visit 'the borgias' in 2011 starring jeremey irons as the cunning rodrigo borgia.
i can't wait for lucretia's antics and ring of poison.

Happy Birthday Olympia

IDIOT OF THE WEEK!!!: Sharron Angle Republican Senate Nominee for Arizona

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

'Valentine's Day' **stars

a slight fluffy concoction that's sticky as cotton candy and like that candy will leave you basically unfulfilled. but it is a confection that you might enjoy if you happen to enjoy cotton candy.

vignettes is too broad a word to use here as it is all edited together but it does consist of mostly disjointed stories.

the best belongs to jennifer garner and ashton kutcher. i'm not a big fan of the mostly unphotogenic garner but i must say she has one really good scene with which she steals the whole candy box.

then there are the surprises that involve eric dane, bradley cooper and the always charming julia roberts. all are touching really. now get your mind out of the gutter as there is no 3way.

some talent is truly wasted like queen latifa, some have seen better days like shirley macclaine and some are just window dressing like patrick dempsey.

then there are the terrible. the awful jessica biel in a terrible role for instance.

but as in any movie she appears the absolutely worst yet again in this film is anne hathaway. anne should find another millionaire, hopefully not a criminal this time, and go off into the sunset with him. way off in the sunset. far from any and every movie set.

i say rent if you really have nothing else to do.

'Shutter Island' ***1/2stars Available on Blu Ray and DVD

the best film of 2010 so far. that really may not be saying very much due to all the crap that's come out but this is a damn good film. something different and if not completely unique it's the best of it's kind since 2005's 'the jacket'.

an excellent supporting cast is headed by leo dicaprio in a great performance the oscars will probably once again ignore. mark ruffalo as always is perfect and will be forever ignored by the academy.

max von sydow and ben kingsley support admirably. but it is the always good and always underestimated/underrated patricia clarkson that turns out the type of worthy of a nomination supporting role people remember.

personally i think this is martin scorsese's best directorial effort in years. truth be told he really lost me ages ago retreading the same old same old. here he tries something new with good results.

my verdict is rent it, make popcorn and get caught up in it's web.

What Is Going on in My Mind Today?

well eric cantor did not fail and bashed obama yesterday on andrea mitchell's show on msnbc. he's an idiot.

pb caves in and obama gets what he wants...anything to say eric cantor or john bonehead boehmer?

if the republican senator nominee from nevada feels americans can use their second amendment rights to stand up to tyranny does that mean i can use the same rights and take arms up against those who support this said tyranny and our against our duly elected president? sarah palin, michelle bachman and glenn beck trust me i will...just trust me! oh yeah and you too sharron angle who put this on the table. sharron you're an idiot!

i finally saw 'shutter island'. review tomorrow. hint: rent it.

The Brilliant Matthew Morrison's Spectacular Tony Performance...and the Less Than Spectacular Performance of Lea Michele at the Tony Awards

please please watch matthew morrison...watch the dance yes but not just his feet...watch his arms and hands as all become part of the choreography. watch how he handles his outfit as it becomes part of the dance and a major prop. every gesture is insanely brilliant. and oh hell he has the voice to go with it. he is the consummate performer of 2010. bravo matthew!

sorry but lea not so much...better luck next time and do not ever ever follow matthew again ever ever ever. it's kind of like a dog act following streisand at the hollywood bowl. and stop the streisand. you need your own identity. call the wonderful but mishandled julie budd. she knows all too well that what you are doing is so so wrong. it may have been clever and cute in your bedroom. in real life and real time it is going to be your own personal titanic. your rendition of the same 'don't rain on my parade' on 'glee' ran circles around this misguided interpretation or should i say barbra imitation? and stop stop crossing your eyes. with barbra it was normal but for you it just appears as shallow imitation/mockery if not downright cruel. lea you are talented in your own right so stop stealing barbra's already. alright?

What Is Going on in My Mind Today?

the tony awards are on my mind...sean hayes was brilliantly funny and dare i say adorable. his visual skits were a riot. his dead-on bernadette peters gag tops the list. bring him back soon...emmy and oscar producers think twice before you overlook him.

bebe neuwirth radiates talent and beauty and still has the best walk on broadway...kristin chenoweth is a true beauty and broadway star. ricky martin is going to play che in 'evita'? who the hells worse nightmare is this? barbara cook is 80? where the hell does the time go. angela lansbury always a class act. matthew morrison is brilliant. his 'all i need is the girl' was inspired and stole the evening. they should have handed him a tony and an emmy. scarlett johansson wins a tony and i say brava. she and ryan get cutest couple of the night. the brilliant bebe neuwirth and nathan lane giving out best actor and actress in a musical award was a brilliant idea and damn they were classy. cate blanchett looked stunning but why was she there? or paula abdul for that matter.

viola davis brava as best actress...good going and congrats.

so that was the good news of the night. be prepared.

please please please stop giving catherine zeta jones awards for musicals...SHE CAN'T SING! and what was all that phoniness when she won...it was a bloody lock.

lea michelle stop doing streisand. it was cute as a teenager on 'glee' but at the tony's it's a huge mistake. and what is with the streisandesque crossing of your eyes? stop! you are going to kill a should be good career. enuf girl enuf.

okay what the hell happened to the broadway musical? the proof is in the revivals my friends. the revivals were inspired by good to great broadway musicals even if their remountings were not. the nominees for "new' musicals were absolutely awful. garbage really. can anyone write a book musical anymore. garbage just garbage.

after like 200 years can someone do something with bernadette peter's hair...good lord!

to keep hollywood stars coming back to broadway they gave denzel washington a tony. over leiv schreiber and alfred molina. really? i mean really?

once more with great feeling.....Bravo Sean Hayes!

enough said...pics and more to come.

What Is Going on in My Mind Today?

well the tv season is over and the season finales have either keep us longing for more or not so much.

longing for more:' csi miami', 'spartacus', 'the good wife', 'grey's anatomy', 'brother's and sisters' and 'bones'. and of course 'glee'.

re 'glee': we knew they had to lose regionals. yes? yes we did so that next year they'd be even more determined and competitive and a more cohesive group. i mean even the toughest among them caved during 'to sir, with love'. everyone is talking jane lynch for an emmy nomination and i agree. but why no talk of the multi-talented matthew morrison. c'mon folks he's a wonder to behold and drips talent from every pore.

the gulf is on my mind. we continue to destroy the air we breath. now pb has raped our seas. we were not 'given' this planet. it has been loaned to us. we are blowing it. time for the powers that be to take it back and give it to a more intelligent species. yes there is a more intelligent species i am sure. good gods there has to be.

i'm going to miss '24' a lot.

the 2010 summer movies seem to suck. maybe a sleeper will come along. i'm hoping 'inception' is it.

why is sarah palin still popular? as i said there must be a more intelligent species out there.

why are republicans and pundits trying to make barack obama come out angrier. oh yeah they want him to come across as the stereotypical angry black man. stay calm barack for all our sakes. frack the republicans. idiots all.

'Dear John' on DVD and Bluray: *1/2 stars

i truly don't know what to say about this film. well it is getting 1 1/2 stars and not 0 stars because of tatum channing's understated wonderful performance. throw in richard jenkins as his mildly autistic dad and a semi charming amanda seyfried. semi charming as in the first half of this somewhat disjointed film. at first miss seyfried is a wonderful wide eyed charmer who turns into a real bitch. what she does and how she does it is totally fracked up. any woman, or man, who does what she does to john should be sent to dick cheyney's house for slow torture. she becomes despicable...sorry no excuses...cheyney her now! amanda this role was not for you...only a really cold and not too talented actress should have played this role. was anne hathaway unavailable?

what really amazes me is that director lasse hallstrom's last film, the wonderful 'hachi: a dog's tale', went straight to dvd and this story of a pathetic miserable creature saw the light of day or should i say the darkness of a movie theatre.

rent at your own risk. tatum channing and richard jenkins kept me watching. i can't speak for you. this is in the running for my worst of 2010 based solely on the subject.

i've said it before and this is the perfect time to say it again do yourself a favor and rent 'hachi: a dog's tale"

IDIOT OF THE WEEK!!!: Elton John

it's official elton john is the idiot of the week. he beats out a number of idiots including the drugster idiot's wedding he performed at. frackin moron

'The Messenger': ***stars on DVD and BluRay

a good script, a military subject rarely seen yet not directed terribly well, kind of too slow paced, gets this 3 stars. why? well with different actors it may have gotten fewer stars. but for no other reason it gets one star for each of the three amazing performances by ben foster, woody harrelson and a super amazing samantha morton. if you appreciate good acting, great considering samantha morton, rent this film.
