This blog gives a look into the eternal sunshine of my ever roving mind. I consider myself a social critic. I believe in Film, Music, Theatre, Musical Theatre, Gay Rights, the Right to Choose, Human Rights and YES I still believe in Barack Obama. I believe in most things left of center. I don't get any organized religion. They are all a sham. This is the gay pride flag. I am proudly gay. These are the things this blog is about. Love it, like it or leave it. We all have choices.

Song of the Day: 'You Can't Hurry Love'
'you can't hurry love' is a classic. a motown classic that has expanded well beyond it's origins. it's always been a favorite of mine and seems to constantly roll around in that music depot in my brain. i just love this song in all it's incarnations enjoy.
phil collins with 'you can't hurry love'
combined with 'two hearts'
and from 'runaway bride' and the dixie chicks
and alison krauss live
and of course the supreme original*
*i believe phil collins holds the best of 'you can't hurry love' title

'Spartacus' Star Bows Out Due to Cancer Recurrence
for andy personally the following is sad news. for us not quite as sad but it's a shame that one of the most innovative series of the past season is now gone. but most importantly we wish mr. whitfield well and much luck in his battle with cancer.
'Spartacus: Blood and Sand star Andy Whitfield is bowing out of the second season of the hit Starz show because his cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, has returned and requires aggressive treatment. "It's with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as Spartacus and all the wonderful people involved," Whitfield, 36, said in a statement. "It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey. Thank you sincerely for the support so far." The future of the series -- season 2 had tentatively been set to air next September -- is uncertain. Starz still plans to premiere the series' prequel, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, this January.'

Song of the Day: "Hurricane"
dylan is a genius musically and lyrically. i know his vocals can put some people off lol. but he was one of the master musicians of the last century...may he continue to reign supreme.
dylan's 'hurricane' is a masterpiece combining music, lyrics and social enlightment in a single brilliant work of art.

What's on My Mind Today: Oy Another Wasila Type Idiot on the Rise
this nut bag right winger won the republican primary in delaware on tuesday. well the republican candidate lost really. this wacko was the tea party pick and those nutty baggers came out in force to win her the nomination. why? because the right wing nut jobs are fired up.
well is this what we want taking over congress and the country? so all you democrats sit on your asses and stay apathetic this election cycle and the wack jobs win. but if you don't want this and other moralistic crazies taking over the washington asylum you best get 'fired up and ready to go' as we did in 2008.
it's our call really. oh and one other thing this douche head was endorsed by the douche diva IT from wasila. is this what you want? well i don't. we need to get off our collective asses and make a difference as we did in 2008. for the record i love teabagging but fear these tea baggers more than i fear the mythical image of a satan.
here is the made in the image of IT when she appeared on the bill maher's 'politically incorrect' way back when bfore he was fired for telling the truth after 9/11.
and here she is on sexuality. she takes on all sex but is hell bent on ridding the world of masturbation the most natural of acts. i'd almost enjoy watching her try and pull this one off. pun intended. what a frackin' idiot!
the mind boggles

Remembering Dorothy Loudon on Her Birthdate
the great dorothy loudon died too too soon. she was magic on the broadway stage. the dimming of her light on the great white way could and would never be replaced. thanks for the laughs and all the joy.
'fifty percent'
her hilarious 'vodka'
she was the epitome of a 'broadway baby'
from her tony winning role as mrs. hannigan in 'annie': 'easy street'
and two from 'sweeny todd': 'by the sea' and 'the worst pies in london'

Song(s) of the Day from Birthday Girl Lauren Bacall
lauren won the tony award as best actress in a musical for 'applause' and 'woman of the year' and deservedly so. lauren represents what a living legend really is and means. to her friends she is betty bacall. so happiest of birthdays betty. and keep on keeping on.
'woman of the year'
'the grass is always greener' with the hysterically funny and dearly departed marilyn cooper
the 'woman of the year' herself
and not only did she deserve a tony for playing margo channing but all the 'applause' that went with it
'but alive'
this scene and song won her the tony. this clip from the tv adaptation does not give justice to the live performance. but i'll take what i can get.
'welcome to the theater'
and when lauren as margo tells you to 'fasten your seat belts' you had best listen!

'Dancing with Whom'?
since when is a woman known only for being her idiot mother's daughter and an unwed mother herself a star? she should be dancing with her entire family in an internment camp for right wing unjudeo-christian american born constitutional terrorists. dancing with a star my ass!
Christian de la Fuente joins 'Private Practice'
hot off 'in plain sight' christian joins 'private practice' this season. just making a guss here but he probably is the new guy kate walsh sluts out with....i mean damn her character has done 'it' with every guy on the show except the now departed dell.

Song of the Day: 'Spread a Little Sunshine' from "Pippin''
a mother's song for her son in 'pippin'. this was not exactly my mom but hell it is was someone's mother.
i love the musical 'pippin. it was the broadway show that introduced me to both jill clayburgh and then betty buckley, her replacement, as catherine the role of pippin's love interest. the original starred john rubinstien in the title role but william katt admirably replaced him in this video adaptation.
it remains in my top 10 broadway shows of all time.

Listen to This Shit for Brains Newt Gingrich: Obama May Hold 'Kenyan, Anti-Colonial' Worldview
as stated over the weekend this man is an american born and bred home grown terrorist.
he is inciting riots and worse. where are the 9/11 19 when we need them. o frack they died! those morons killed the innocents when their were real anti muslim americans to attack.
Remembering Claudette on Her Birthday
claudette colbert....france's greatest export to the states. claudette personifies what a film legend is. she spanned all of the movie experience. from silent films she easily and gracefully moved to talkies. from black and white she became more enchanting with the move to color. and from the big screen to the small screen she rounded out her career with the mini series 'the two mrs. grenvilles'. oh yeah there were the broadway triumphs too. claudette is gone to her peace but lives forever on celluloid. she won one oscar ('it happened one night') but deserved at least two ('since you went away'). i was first introduced to her work via 'since you went away' on television. it remains in my top ten of all time favorites. heck it also introduced me to the wonderful jennifer jones, joseph cotton, robert walker and guy madison. what's not to love!
her well deserved oscar was for 'it happened one night' and at 74 years old it is still one of the best comedies ever made. it defines classic film.
her 'cleopatra' still makes elizabeth taylor's look like a high school performance by an understudy.
'the sign of the cross' is still a risque romp filmed and released before hollywood had a 'standards and practice' rule.
'midnight' is another classic comedy. a wonderful romp really.
there are soooo many more but i'll single out 'the palm beach story', 'imitation of life' and 'three came home' also among my favorites.
so here they all are together. i'm rating them ****stars apiece as they all withstand the test of time. they need to be judged by the era in which they were filmed. they are classics all.
so thank you claudette for your grace, your charm and you forever enduring performances.

9/11 of course is on my mind. my heart and spirit is with the family and friends of the victims of 19 terrorists.
i spit on the ashes of these 19 men.
however it is also a time to think about the homegrown american terrorists that walk among us. the graves i hope one day to piss on...although i think my piss is too good for them!

the list goes on and on...so starting today we should take a look at the terrorists that have a voice...not the holed up ones we don't know of but the media savvy and public terrorists...
today's home grown terrorist is the madman from gainsville the most unjudeochristian terry jones.

'Playing for Time' ****stars
one of the best tv movies (1980) has been released this month. the extraordinary talents of vanessa redgrave and jane alexander raise this holocaust drama above most holocaust films. it is a gift that someone finally saw fit to give it a dvd release.

What's on My Mind Today: Can You Believe This C*NT?*
IT is commemorating 9/11 with a 'celebration' with the he IT in alaska and to be part of it you need to pay up to $250.00 to attend. these two douche bags are making money off the victims of the twin tower horror.
i repeat all you non-republicans better get out and vote this november. i'll say it every frackin' day if i have to. we are not here to merely be entertained.

Happy Birthday Colin the Great
i am one of those who personally feel colin was robbed of the oscar this past season for 'a single man'. oddly enough the more i read the more i notice how many officiendos and film lover's agree with me. so up next it's 'the king's speech'. the film and mr firth are being widely praised and lauded at the massive amount of film festivals now happening. so maybe colin will get what he was robbed of this past season by giving the oscar in 2010 to the 'sentimental' favorite last time out. we'll see.

Let's Talk About Kim
it appears to be time for a kim novak collection. and it is deserved. i love kim novak. was she the best actress ever? no. so what. she was a personality who could act. she was one studios answer to marilyn monroe. did she beat out monroe? no. was she a better actress than monroe? hell yes and most film historians agree. i'm a film historian and i sure agree. so there!
and did i mention she's a beauty.
the collection includes 'bell book and candle', 'jeanne eagles', 'picnic', 'middle of the night' and the truly awful 'pal joey'.
'pinic', and 'jeanne eagles' are among my favorite kim films. they would be joined by 'vertigo', 'the legend of lylah clare', 'bell book and candle' and the 'notorious landlady' in my collection.
but i also give you the following kim films that i like a lot. are they great films. hell no. some are good. some are campy. hell 'the legend of lylah clare' that i listed above is one of the campiest films ever. hey i'm gay. we love campy movies.
so give the collection a try. but avoid the bastardized 'pal joey' that went from a damn good broadway musical to a lousy frank sinatra ego trip of a movie.
i give you miss kim novak
Song of the Day: 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'
fall is upon the northern hemisphere and as the seasons change so do we all change...so i'm going to try and expand things here. so i'm going to give a shot at a 'song of the day'...all i can say is my musical mind and tastes are all over the place...eclectic. so you will never know what's up next. music is my life. it is in me. it always has been. music, all music, needs to be shared. i'm a virgo thus i believe in sharing.
to start things off is the queen herself, miss aretha franklin, with 'bridge over troubled water'.

'The Back Up Plan': **stars
i have a thing for jennifer lopez in her romantic comedies. i find her absolutely charming in them. even in this bit of a miss and mess she shines. alex o'laughlin is another charmer. they just have a lousy script to work with that's all too formula and familiar.
rent it on a rainy day. it will pass the time.
