'The Good Wife' Is in Fire!

after a bit of a slump at the beginning of season 4 that started to recover in the latter half of the season 'the good wife' has come back swinging and regains the title of the best drama on tv 2013.

the law firm is blown to bits, relationships are in turmoil and alicia is at the top of her game. the first five episodes of season 5 have been remarkable. it should resurface at the emmy's next time around. as should juliaana margulies the best actress currently on a drama series.
and josh charles has never been better than in this episode 5 where spit-fire dialogue bounced off the walls while on it's competition over at showtime the only thing bouncing off the walls (still) was the bi-polar lead actress.

Emmy Awards Tonight

as much as i love a lot of tv the emmys don't grab me as say the oscars do. even though the oscars draw a lot of dreck they tend to pick 'most' of the best. most! not all.

the emmys tend to get monotonous mostly due to repetition. 'mad men ' again? really? yes really. i'm not into most tv comedies to me they died with seinfeld, raymond, friends and the golden ladies.

but tv drama still gets me. i think most tv dramas are written better than big screen films. but the emmys also tend to ignore the real 'best of'. i mean 'once upon a time' and 'good wife' are ignored for best drama but those damn mad men keeps getting the nod. i still can't figure out who the hell nominates and eventually vote the winners. who is this committee?

well anyway the category that i think is the tightest and best this year is for actress in a leading role drama. it appears claire danes will win it. she is certainly worthy. i'd love michelle dockery to be the surprise winer. she is flawless in 'downton abbey'. ans a repeat win by julianna maggulies would be always welcome. i'd have voted for dockery. sublime. yes i repeat sublime. but hell i did not get a vote.

enjoy them for what they are tonight. i do like the glamour of it all.

Emmy Nominee Julianna Margulies

truth be told it bothered me when i checked this, my own blog out, to see the distasteful ann romney as the days lead in so i decided to add a post. so why not have the talented, award winning and ever lovely julianna margulies take the lead?
 hell yeah!

Emmy Nomination Talk

so let's start off by saying ''uma thurmam what the frack". she was awful in 'smash'. the worst. she sucked as she generally does. and yet she gets a guest nomination over carrie preston in 'the good wife'. shame shame shame.

now that i got that off my chest i'll move on. it was not an otherwise bad call except for the major networks who received not a single nom for best drama series. the only hopeful, 'the good wife', was shut out shamefully. cable dominated. but that is not to say the networks did not have worthy fare like 'the good wife', 'once upon a time' and 'revenge'.

'madmen' and 'american horror story' reigned supreme with the most noms followed by 'downton abbey'. i am thrilled with all the acting nods given to 'downton' especially michelle dockery. but there was not a single throw away in their acting noms so bravo to them all. but where is dan crawley?

the best actress drama category is the most competitive. michelle, julianna magulies and claire danes with kathy bates along for the ride. they are all deserving. i love julianna but she won last year. i want michelle to win. claire will get it.

drama series is a damn good list too. i want 'downton' but my second choice 'homeland' has the edge. we'll see. i am so over 'madmen'. i just don't get the fawning. enough already. 'breaking bad' may be worthy but i gave up on it. enough of the cooking meth already. and don't get me started  on the gratuitous violence. it was once brilliant. it is now formular. don't send hate mail. i don't read it.

josh charles ignored for 'the good wife'? yes he was. i am thrilled for jason ritter, jean smart, jessica lange, sarah paulson and connie britton. all worthy this year. most years actually.
but alas there was no love for 'renvenge' or 'once upon a time'.
 but uma thurman? really???

if they are pictured above i am thrilled they got a nod. they can't all win but their contributions this year are undeniable and as we see respected.

Michelle and Julianna: Well Done VF

glad to see michelle dockery making this vanity fair tv issue. she does belong in the same class as julianna margulies. whether danes or vergara belong with them is a whole other question.

claire danes has shown a better side on 'homeland'. so maybe. but sofia vergara? give me a break.

Emmy Awards 2011

kate winslet won best actress in a movie or miniseries for the title role in 'mildred pierce'. she deserved the win as she was far better than the film itself which seemed like it was embalmed in total.

julianna margulies won for the soph year of 'the good wife'. she grows with each episode and peels the layers off alicia florek brilliantly. she deserved it.

if you have been following my blog i picked 'downton abbey' to win best miniseries when i first viewed it. it was a helluva lot better than the aforementioned embalmed 'mildred pierce'. i can't wait for season two.

maggie smith won a supporting actress emmy for her 'dowager' role in 'downton abbey'. she was not present to accept her win but damn she so deserved it.

as for the rest of the awards i really have no interest.

Season Finales Part 2: The Best Finales of 2011

cliffhangers are the staple of the dramatic episodic shows since the 'who shot jr' moment on dallas. some are contrived, some are just okay and every once in awhile some are brilliant in that they astonish and make wish the summer away. this season there were four that left us begging for more. in alphabetical order they are:

'Castle': the season finale had more twists and turns that other shows can't accomplish in an entire season. rick castle has matured yet maintains his boyish charm. kate becket becomes a woman in search of a murderer and new roots. if nathan fillion and stana katic do not get emmy noms there is no justice. week after week they threw home runs. in the finale they astounded. bravo to both of them. all this with an amazing supporting cast makes this one of tv's best shows.

'The Good Wife': this is one of the few finales that had me smiling for days. but underneath that smile i was well aware of all the complications that are coming. julianna margulies continues to amaze. the writers continue to give us crisp characterizations and plot lines. this is the finest ensemble cast on network television. this is the best series on television. if you are not watching this you are missing tv at it's best.

'Pretty Little Liars: the juggler has not dropped a ball. the plate twirler keeps the dishes spinning. not a single crash yet. who's lying? who's being lied to? where the hell did that body in the bell tower go? who the frack is 'a' really? happily the next season begins june 14th but i don't expect qick answers.

The Vampire Diaries: it has left "true blood' in the dust. it is still the most erotic program on the air. damn who could keep track of the body count on the last two episodes. but the finale holy hell. damon getting heart? stefan going roque? elena/catherine what's next? september can't come soon enough.

honorable mention goes to 'bones'. it put a smile on my face but not 'the good wife' smile. the episode itself was a major letdown but the last 45 seconds semi redeemed it. almost!
