'Prisoners' ****

'prisoners' is a damn good film. jake gyllenhaal and hugh jackman are at the top of their game. it's one of the best thrillers i've seen in years. it's tough, suspenseful and gritty. it's not for the squeamish or faint of heart. child abductions never make for easy viewing. this is not the exception.
kudos to director denis villeneuve for keeping me on the edge of my seat for 153 minutes. and for making me not dislike maria bello and melissa leo as much as i usually do.
i have a feeling it may get lost in the oscar madness even though it is one of the best reviewed films of the year. it is certainly in my top 10 as of this date.

Marion Cotillard: 'Pub Dior'

needless to say i'd watch this woman read a phone book!

Tom, Shane and 'Bridegroom'

tom and shane were partners. when tom accidentally fell from a roof his parents denied shane entrance to the hospital and then his funeral. tom had no legal rights. tom's family screwed shane financially and emotionally. so did the hospital and the united states government. shane made a video a year after tom's death that went viral.

linda bloodsworth-thomason ('designing women') took notice and has made an extremely powerful documentary. it's all about tom and shane and tolerance. and equality. and love. and life. and i repeat equality and tolerance.
it will air on 10/27 on the own network and will be available on netflix the same day.

here's a first look at 'bridegroom'

it starts at 10pm eastern. there is a recap airing at 8pm eastern. catch up!

Best Proposal Ever

it becomes clearer and clearer to me that 'glee' is quite possibly the best thing that has ever happened for young gays all around the world. the level of acceptance is amazing. if i only had these role models as a teenager.

and yet again the wonderful darren criss shows us the amazing talent that he is!

'Why He Had to Go I Don't Know He Wouldn't Say'

'glee' is back.
so did you reach for the box of kleenex or pull the dagger out of your heart"? how the hell did lea michele even get through this? and she was at the top vocal wise which is never a surprise. she tore my heart out.

(carrie underwood take note: this is how you cover this beatles song. not the way you performed that abomination at the emmy's last sunday.)

Love Me If You Dare' and 'Little White Lies'

tomorrow is marion's birthday.
i've been catching up with some of her lesser known films. 'love me if you dare' is a delightful little comedy about childhood friends who grow up 'daring' each other with practical jokes involving a little box. it's subtitled and worth the read. it also stars her husband guillaume canet. it's really a bit enchanting.

and also:
on a little darker side is 'little white lies'. it's in the 'big chill' vein in that it tells the story of a group of friends who meet for holiday and tragedy overshadows the good times. it's a heartwarming slice of life film that reveals truths and lies amongst the friends. it is directed by marion's husband guillaume canet.

it should come as no surprise that i recommend these marion films. i think she is extraordinary and at the top of the best actresses of our time.
