This blog gives a look into the eternal sunshine of my ever roving mind. I consider myself a social critic. I believe in Film, Music, Theatre, Musical Theatre, Gay Rights, the Right to Choose, Human Rights and YES I still believe in Barack Obama. I believe in most things left of center. I don't get any organized religion. They are all a sham. This is the gay pride flag. I am proudly gay. These are the things this blog is about. Love it, like it or leave it. We all have choices.

'Gravity' ****stars and All The Stars That Are in the Galaxy It Inhabits
it's all been said over and over. 'gravity' is one of the best of the year. it's the best 3d has ever offered. sandra bullock has never been better. george clooney is the charmer of all charmers. director alfonso cuaron has created a masterpiece.
it jumps to the top of my 2013 best film list. sandra gets my vote for best actress as of today. i actually love saying that.
there are more films and performances to come. this is merely oscarbation edging at this point. but it's hard to see beyond this film right now.
it's a must see in 3d.
run don't walk to 'gravity'.

'The Quarterback'
it's taken me a few days to go here. 'glee' honored finn the quarterback on it's cory monteith tribute last thursday night. and yup it left me in a puddle of my own tears. it was a fitting tribute to the character of finn as it blurred the lines of fantasy and reality in cathartic fashion.
the first thing i asked was 'how the hell did lea michele pull this off?' because she is a professional that's how.
the musical tributes were fitting and mostly succeeded. i will say the use of 'rent's seasons of love' has been over used and over abused at times like this. it was moving for sure but it's time to retire this musical moment for a few decades. that said it set the scene from the first moment. when the alumni came on stage the dam burst. but where the hell was dianna agron?
then came amber riley giving her most moving performance ever of 'i'll stand by you'.
one of the best performances was 'no surrender' which mark salling tore apart and me along with it.
it does not end there. there was one of tv's most moving moments when finn's mom and step dad and kurt were packing up his belongings. and i was on the second box of tissues.
the real floodgates opened with the amazing performances of naya rivera, and the unstoppable lea michele.

'Blue Jasmine' **stars
i'm not going to waste a lot of time here. although there is a lot of oscar buzz around this woody allen film i just don't get it.
cate blanchett has best actress buzz around her for playing one of the most despicable characters in decades. she is way over the top from beginning to end. forget about it. one of the worst of the year. enough said.

'Prisoners' ****
'prisoners' is a damn good film. jake gyllenhaal and hugh jackman are at the top of their game. it's one of the best thrillers i've seen in years. it's tough, suspenseful and gritty. it's not for the squeamish or faint of heart. child abductions never make for easy viewing. this is not the exception.
kudos to director denis villeneuve for keeping me on the edge of my seat for 153 minutes. and for making me not dislike maria bello and melissa leo as much as i usually do.
i have a feeling it may get lost in the oscar madness even though it is one of the best reviewed films of the year. it is certainly in my top 10 as of this date.

Tom, Shane and 'Bridegroom'
tom and shane were partners. when tom accidentally fell from a roof his parents denied shane entrance to the hospital and then his funeral. tom had no legal rights. tom's family screwed shane financially and emotionally. so did the hospital and the united states government. shane made a video a year after tom's death that went viral.
linda bloodsworth-thomason ('designing women') took notice and has made an extremely powerful documentary. it's all about tom and shane and tolerance. and equality. and love. and life. and i repeat equality and tolerance.
it will air on 10/27 on the own network and will be available on netflix the same day.

Best Proposal Ever
it becomes clearer and clearer to me that 'glee' is quite possibly the best thing that has ever happened for young gays all around the world. the level of acceptance is amazing. if i only had these role models as a teenager.
and yet again the wonderful darren criss shows us the amazing talent that he is!
