R.I.P Julie Harris

broadway lost one of it's best. the most honored tony winner, 10 nominations with 5 wins in the best actress category. she received a sixth for lifetime achievement. i had the  privilege to see ms harris on broadway a number of times. amazing. a great loss.
many of you may remember her as lilimae clements on 'knots landing'.
ms harris was 87.

R.I.P. Eydie Gorme

so this is what t'he soundtrack of my life' is all about. it's those songs that filter through my brain on a continual loop. one of those songs has been 'blame it on the bossa nova'. it is truly all i really know about edyie gorme who was a bit to 'vegas' for me. ms gorme passed on saturday. but 'bossa nova' was just a catchy tune i heard in passing but stuck in my brain cells.
i have added 'what did i have that i don't have from 'on a clear day you can see forever' as it is one of my favorite musical songs. she doesn't deliver it as the great barbara harris did in the original cast but what the heck here it is anyway.

R.I.P Annette

i knew this day was coming. yet it's still sad news. annette was the most famous of the original mousekeeters on 'the mickey mouse club'. she went on to star with frankie avalon in a series of beach movies. paul anka wrote an album full of songs for her 'annette sings anka'. for a lot of men of a certain age their first crush has now passed on.

annette actually had a #1 billboard song 'taul paul' in 1959. her minor success in this led to a string of young teenage stars recording stars some one hit wonders and others more successfully.

annette on 'american bandstand' 1959.

in 1960 she recorded 'o dio mio' when walt disney gave her a three episode arc on the tv series 'zorro.

Remembering Richard Adler

mr adler died on june 26th. his music was a staple on broadway in the 50's. 'pajama game' is probably his most famous show and 'steam heat' his most famous song.

'Desparate Housewives': Time to Say Goodbye

after 8 seasons and 180 uneven episodes the ladies of wisteria lane are leaving primetime. it's been a rocky road at times. after a brilliant first season the next eight were so so hit and miss. but i kept coming back. sometimes it was a very painful visit and sometimes but not often enough a wonderful visit. this last season or at least the last few episodes were a grand return to better days. but why the frack did they kill mike defino when orson was back in town? ridiculous!

yet there were the ladies. lynette, gaby, bree and susan. i liked them. most of the time. marc cherry did make a fool off susan way to often. it helped kill her character and the show more often than not. yet i will miss these four dames and the characters who walked in and out of their lives.

tonight at 11 p.m. it all comes to and end. i bid thee a mostly fond adieu.

R.I.P. Whitney

when i heard the news last weekend my reaction was the cynical 'of course. what did you expect to happen?' have i mellowed over the past week? no, not really. i am still cynical. but a great voice is silenced. that is what i need to give notice of: the voice. just the voice as i can now only wonder what if. what if ms houston had just listened to the lyrics she was singing in this song: 'on my own'' which is the one i'll remember most and be wishing she had also!
