Kate the Great

kate seems to be taking her well deserved 'vacation' from film.
we can only hope she is reading scripts. please be reading scripts kate!

but i can't have too long a period between postings on kate. so i made this little video to tide us kate fans over.
the soundtrack is the gone to soon brilliant georgia brown. the song is 'i'm a woman' from the musical 'carmelina.
a bit of triva: 'carmelina' is the original 'mamma mia'. this is true. it was based on the movie 'buena sera mrs. campbell'. same stories revolving around a wedding, three possible dads and the outcomes are the same. you must trust me on this. my mind is full of this kind of stuff. why? wish i knew. no really, i'm a music, musical, film and theater buff. well the word fanatic may be a better fit!

No. 11 Is a TIE!

The year was 1965.
Although she appeared in a few British films and tv shows it wasn't until '65 that she burst into the universal public's eye.
She is JULIE CHRISTIE.

The films that tie are her Oscar Winning Best Actress performance in 'Darling' and the epic 'Doctor Zhivago".

These two films get this spot because of Julie.

They would be the beginning of a career that lasts till today.
Julie remains one of my favorites.
I thank god for whenever she decides to grace the screen with HER presence.
She really has hated filming these past 20 years but shows up every now and then to remind us how much she is missed!

Just last year she graced us with 'Away From Her'. She should have won the Oscar!!!

'DARLING'

The essential 60's film. THE morals, mores, the decadence or the lack of. Directed by the brilliant John Schlesinger and written by Frederic Rafael this is slice of 60's life at it's best.

The Oscar!

'DOCTOR ZHIVAGO'

Simply put: EPICAL. The likes of which we may never see in the future again. Julie is Lara Antpov caught in the war in Russia and a war in a marriage. She is radiant! Omar Shariff in his born to play role. Alove story that is timeless for all time.

'Titanic' is Ten

The Stars: Kate and Leo

The Lovers

The Film

Ten is the most difficult because right below it are films that may have at one time been in my Top Ten.
So after much hair pulling and nail biting I went with the one I truly believe belongs there.
C'mon a big ship, an iceberg, a love affair, meddling parents, aristocracy and those at one time considered second class. Hey did I mention the iceberg?. The necklace, the jilted mean boyfriend? That painting? Did I mention the love affair? Kate and Leo aka Rose and Jack who could have been better. The great Kathy Bates as Molly Brown. The cinematography, the screenplay, the directionthe special effects, the music. Did I mention that theme song. Hey it worked. It's just that it was played out foreverrrrrrrrrr. Did I mention Kate and Leo? Did I mention this is number ten? Why the hell after all of this isn't it number? Got me!
